Consultant Ben Kallos to Run for Lappin's Seat
Chris Bragg

We’ve been hearing rumors that up-and-coming political consultant Ben Kallos was interested in running for City Council, and he just registered a campaign committee to do so:

Registration Date: 24-JAN-12
Status: ACTIVE
Office: City Council – District: N/A
David Kogelman, Treasurer
NEW YORK, NY 10025

Kallos, who spends most of his time currently working for Bill Samuels’ New Roosevelt Initiative, said in an interview that he is expecting to run for Councilwoman Jessica Lappin’s Upper East Side seat, assuming that Lappin runs for Manhattan borough president and redistricting keeps him in Lappin’s district.

“Right now, she’s running for Manhattan borough president,” Kallos said. “She’s raising money at the borough president level. If she happens to run again for Council, I would love to spend four more years working with Bill Samuels.”

Kallos noted that he was planning to run for Council in 2009, but deferred those plans after the term-limits extension.

Assemblyman Micah Kellner is also thought to be interested in running for the seat.
