Please join me from 6PM to 9PM on Thursday, June 28 to support my friend Benjamin Kallos in his run for City Council at

Professor Thom's
219 2nd Avenue (Between 13th & 14 St), NYC (map)
(2nd Floor "Loft" with outdoor terrace)

First drink free + $5 Drink Special: Champagne, Wine & Draft Miller Light

I have known Ben since college. He has been a constant friend, always supportive, and is a tech entrepreneur who has devoted his life to public service.

We need to elect more people like Ben to office -- tech entrepreneurs who understand technology and how to support start-ups so that our city government can catch up and provide the information and services citizens and small businesses need to thrive.

You can read more about him and his candidacy:

  • For the Music & Nightlife Lovers: Ben has supported culture, music and nightlife knowing that they drive the New York City economy, has defended Constitutionally protected freedoms including serving as Amicus Counsel in Viacom v. YouTube.  Ben supports reforming the draconian cabaret laws that criminalize dancing in unapproved venues (in a climate where virtually no new venues can be approved).
  • For the Tech Policy Nerds: Technology Policy Platform for Government 2.0 (available at  https://kallosforcouncil.com/solutions/technology);
  • For the Entrepreneurs:  New York Times coverage on Ben’s tech consulting from when I first met him in college along with recent coverage of him in the New York Observer.
  • For the Political Junkies: Recent profile on Ben as the candidate “He’s positioning himself as a young voice, a progressive choice, someone who has worked tirelessly, frenetically even, on so many civic issues it makes the résumés of some sitting council members seem paltry by comparison” in the Upper East Side's local paper Our Town.

He is running in the Democratic Primary and the first hurdle is raising money.  The Democratic Primary is capped at $213,000, with $92,400 in public funding available, provided at a 6-to-1 matching rate for the first $175 of every contribution made by a resident of New York City. Please give at least $15 for party admission, which comes with your first drink free. But if you're able to contribute more, it would go a long way. $50 would become $350 after matching, or $175 would become $1,225.

We look forward to seeing you Thursday!
