More Transparency in Albany

Something unique happened this legislative session, with Governor Andrew Cuomo’s refusal to use the “message of necessity,” which bypasses the New York State Constitutional 3 day sunlight requirement, for last minute legislation.  This was covered by Ken Lovett in the Daily News and even received praise from Bill Samuels.

Earlier this year, Citizen’s Committee for an Effective Constitution (EffectiveNY.org) founders Bill Samuels and Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb toured Upstate New York presenting to Editorial Boards and at Town Hall meetings on the “message of necessity” and other Constitutional topics.  Learn more at http://EffectiveNY.org.

Citizen’s Committee for an Effective Constitution was also proud to announce the winner of its first Essay Contest, Patrick Woods, Editor of the Albany Law Review, a native of the Bronx and a fellow graduate of the Bronx High School of Science.  You can read coverage in the Albany Times Union or read the winning essay at EffectiveNY.org.
