Fellowship

Summer Infternships

Come join a City Council campaign to re-elect a Reform Democrat on the Upper East Side. Well-qualified students with a passion for civic engagement and local politics are welcome to apply to our Fall Campaign Fellowship.

Endorsed by The New York Times for his “fresh ideas” and elected in 2013, Ben Kallos grew up on the Upper East Side with his grandparents who fled anti-Semitism and Europe and his mother who still lives here. As your Council Member he has won 400 pre-k seats, secured $150 million for the East River Esplanade, brought SBS to the M79 & M86, won 79 new M15 buses, cleaned up the neighborhood with 300 new trash cans, banned outside income and “legal bribery” in the Council, investigated the Rivington nursing home scandal, won two rent freezes, and continues to fight the Marine Transfer Station. Join his open office monthly for First Friday, Brainstorm with Ben, or gather ten neighbors for Ben In Your Building.

Please select one of the following options:

Organizing Fellowship

Organizing Fellows will work closely with our Field Director to plan and execute an outreach program, manage a large team of enthusiastic volunteers from the community and coordinate with community groups.

Communications Fellowship

Communications fellows will work with the Comms team to plan and execute effective messaging and digital strategy. You’ll gain experience drafting copy, creating media lists and building a social media presence.

Campaign Fellows should be deeply committed to re-electing a Progressive to the City Council and have passion for creating positive change in their neighborhoods. You will be treated as a member of the core team, but expected to split your time between the field needs of the campaign and your fellowship responsibilities.

The fellowship is unpaid and applicants should attempt to secure academic credit.

Fellows must commit to working at least twemty hours a week.

Positions are open immediately and applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Please send a resume and cover letter to Helenaatkallosforcouncil [dot] com (subject: Fellowship) with the name of the fellowship you are applying for in the subject line.
