Progressive Caucus Alliance
Today, the Progressive Caucus Alliance announced its endorsement of Ben Kallos for the 5th Council District in Manhattan. Kallos is the tenth candidate the members of the New York City Council Progressive Caucus have endorsed as a part of their effort to support progressives running for open City Council seats in 2013.
Ben Kallos is a third generation Upper East Sider. Born and raised in the neighborhood, he attended New York public schools and went on to become Executive Director of a leading good government group, a public interest lawyer, an entrepreneur and former Chief of Staff to a local Assembly Member. His focus on progressive policy solutions, combined with his depth of experience in the public sector, makes him a natural choice for the endorsement of the Progressive Caucus Alliance.
“The Progressive Caucus Alliance is proud to endorse Ben Kallos for City Council,” said Council Member Brad Lander, the Progressive Caucus Alliance chair. “Ben has prioritized good government and smart policy over the course of his career, and we look forward to continuing that work with him in the Council in 2014.”
"I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Progressive Caucus Alliance and look forward to joining the team on the City Council,” said Ben Kallos, candidate for the 5th Council District. “The Progressive Caucus has been at the forefront in advancing causes New Yorkers care about -- from helping bring paid sick leave to more than one million people to pushing through reforms on our broken stop and frisk system. I am excited to help advance the policies that will help keep our communities vibrant, and am eager to work together for our city's working families."
The Progressive Caucus Alliance is working to elect candidates who will prioritize creating good jobs, investing in our city’s neighborhoods and sustainable infrastructure, defending civil liberties, supporting public education, and promoting good and effective local government. Polls show that most New Yorkers support these goals, but many have been stymied in recent years. The PCA is Council Members Brad Lander, Margaret Chin, Daniel Dromm, Julissa Ferreras, Melissa Mark-Viverito, Donovan Richards, Jimmy Van Bramer and Jumaane Williams. The group has been working with allies to help fundraise and recruit volunteers for endorsed candidates, and will continue to lend resources leading up to the September 10 primary.
